 Sebastian Burneci

Trumpet

Sebastian Burneci's career reflects a seamless blend of traditional jazz mastery and innovative artistry, solidifying his status as a leading figure in Romania's jazz community.

Sebastian Burneci, born in 1983 in ConstanÈ›a, Romania, is a distinguished jazz trumpeter and composer. Growing up in a musical family—his father being a founding member of the rock band RoÈ™u È™i Negru—Burneci began playing piano and trumpet at the age of six.

He pursued classical trumpet studies at the "Regina Maria" National College of Music in ConstanÈ›a and later at the National University of Music in Bucharest, under the mentorship of Iancu Văduva. His early career included collaborations with the Romanian Radio National Orchestra and the State Philharmonic.

In 2007, Burneci received a scholarship to the esteemed Prins Claus Conservatoire in Groningen, Netherlands, where he earned a second bachelor's degree in jazz trumpet performance, excelling as both a soloist and lead trumpeter in big bands. That same year, he joined the Romanian Radio Big Band as lead trumpeter and soloist, roles he continues to hold.

He is also the founder and leader of the Bucharest Jazz Orchestra, established in 2012, which stands as Romania's only privately active big band.

Burneci's international engagements are noteworthy. In 2014, he performed with the Sebastian Burneci Quartet at the We Jazz Bodrum International Festival in Turkey. He also initiated the Artuditorium project in 2023, aiming to synchronize visual art with live and pre-recorded music. Additionally, he formed the quartet "Sebastian Burneci Secret Plan," which reunited in 2024 after a 15-year hiatus, performing at Sala Radio in Bucharest.

Beyond performance, Burneci contributes significantly to Romania's jazz scene through initiatives like the Bucharest Jazz Club.

Launched in 2024 with support from the Goethe- Institut and Radio România Muzical, this monthly concert series showcases contemporary jazz and improvisational music, enriching the cultural landscape of Bucharest.
